What's the easiest way to test carpet to see if protector is needed.

Not to cut in line, but...
Does the re-application of protector extend the life of a carpet? If so by how much? Is there a reason to not over protect (other than cost) or protect brand new carpet?

I am going to answer Via Mike..

Thang..

Most likely you are not using your sprayer enough and the SB is drying at the tip..

Add six ounces per gallon of alcohol to your SB to keep it from gelling up in the tip of the sprayer.

Also store your wand with the tip point upwards.

Scott..

High heat will NOT take off SB, it actually CURES it onto the fiber....

Are you going to have your products CRI certified?

What are your thoughts on the new standards coming online?

Easiest way?

Pour water on a area in a traffic lane, if it absorbs in right away it needs a reapplication.

Is there a reason to not over protect or protect brand new carpet?

Under normal traffic conditions, I would wait one year to re apply a protector...

Not at this point.....

I want to wait and see where this whole thing goes...I am no hurry to spend 25K to do the "Testing"..

As a professional I am not sure how I feel about people OUTSIDE our industry dictating what we do...

Mike,

Some (dry chemical) companies mix protector with their cleaner...is this a viable mixture?

Take care,

Another question; Do you feel solvent based protector is safe to apply to carpet (whole house) in an occupied building?

Take care,
Lisa

Water based protectors can be combined with many other cleaning solutions,

Whit the "Dry" method you will leave SOME protection behind but the full effect will be compromised and not as effective as the traditional application.

Yes and or no, it depends on the occupants of course..

If it's an 85 year old person with emphysema the answer is no.

You'll have to use your judgment.
When applied correctly the answer is yes ( adequate ventilation and keep the applicator tip below your knee.)

If the guy applying it reacts to it he should defenatly wear a respirator. Usually the person applying it will know right away if he can handle it or not.

The Technical Life + 2 years.

Mike V's opinion is one year.

But why would you have it around more then a month anyways??

You have to pick a time frame a based upon the usage of the carpet. One year is average.

It will be up to you, the professional to decide what is best for your client.

In very heavy use areas you could re apply SB every six months form the get go and not be cheating your clients.

So there is no benefit to "suplimenting" the mill applied protection?

No Jeremy I dont think there is any reason to do so on a new carpet.
