You walk into two different homes on the same day. Both have a red drink spill. Same size. Same general area. Different carpet types.
In the first home, it’s a polyester carpet. The spill has a bright, almost fluorescent look. It hasn’t fully bonded yet, but it’s sitting heavy in the fibers. You rinse and extract. Some of it comes out, but the color still lingers. You apply a reducing agent. Light agitation. Controlled heat. The color starts to shift. It fades, but not evenly. Some areas respond. Others hold.
In the second home, it’s a nylon carpet. Same type of spill, but this one has already set. You rinse and extract. The stain remains, but it looks different. Less surface, more bonded. You apply a mild acidic rinse, then move to a heat transfer method. The color begins to migrate into the towel. Slowly, but consistently. The spot clears with patience and control.
Both jobs required a different approach. Same category of stain. Different fiber behavior. Different results.
From your experience in the field, what worked best for you when dealing with red stains in polyester versus nylon?
